How it works:

Electro-muscular stimulation, more commonly known as EMS, involves the use of impulse currents (i.e. an electrochemical transmission of a signal along a nerve fibre that produces an excitatory or inhibitory response in a target tissue – in this case muscle tissue.) In EMS training, electrical impulse currents are sent to the muscles to stimulate and make them involuntarily contract. The central nervous system (CNS) (i.e. the brain and spinal chord) in all humans, is responsible for sending such electrical impulses around the body to control muscle action. EMS simply intensifies this process. Humans are generally very inefficient at recruiting muscle fibres and so EMS assists the body to recruit more muscle fibres, in addition to those normally recruited through conventional exercise. This is achieved by applying EMS electrodes (i.e. a conductor through which an electric current is passed) above the muscle.

EMS vs Conventional Training:

EMS training is more effective than conventional training as it activates each individual muscle group by up to 95% for each contraction. In addition, the muscle contractions are stronger and more intense than a voluntary muscle contraction alone, hence compared to conventional training a higher number of muscle fibres are activated leading to better muscular conditioning. It provides a total body workout for all muscle groups simultaneously in just 20 minutes. A 20- minute session is equivalent to 1.5 hours of conventional weight training as it recruits up to 95% of deep muscle fibers and activates each individual muscle group more intensively than traditional training.

Weight Loss:

An EMS workout builds up muscle mass. Muscles, even at rest, consume more energy than fat so as the body’s metabolism rate increases with increased muscle mass, excess fat is burned. EMS training has been proven to reduce body fat by up to 4% within 6 weeks. Overweight individuals, on average, after 13 weeks of EMS training helped reduce weight by 3.5kg, body fat by 9%, waist girth by 6.5cm and upper arm girth by 2cm. (Boeckh-Behens & Vatter, 2003; Boeckh-Behens, Walz & Niewohner 2003; Boeckh-Behens, Stotzel & Benner 2003)

Rehabilitation & Health:

Back pain is the most common ailment among the general population, EMS training targets and strengthens the deeper layers of the torso muscle group which helps alleviate back pain as these deep muscles are difficult to activate with conventional methods. After injury or an operation  your muscle volume and strength decreases.  EMS training provides optimal support when it comes to gently rebuilding a specific muscle or muscle groups.

Strength & Endurance:

EMS elicits much more powerful contractions than are possible from voluntary training, up to 30% higher. The contractions allow you to target specific muscle types and qualities through different intensities of stimulation, length of contraction, and rhythm of contraction. Meaning you can target exclusively fast or slow twitch fibres and train for strength and endurance. EMS allows you to completely and simultaneously fire a muscle, bypassing the body’s energy conservation system which causes you to first fire slow twitch fibres followed by fast twitch fibers, these types of contractions elicited by EMS training enhance strength. The EMS full-body workout activates 95% of the muscles fibres at the same time during each contraction as well as deeper muscles being demanded in comparison to conventional weight training. Therefore, EMS training produces an effect much more rapidly and effectively than conventional weight training.

Body Toning:

This revolutionary way of working out makes it possible to achieve your ideal, healthy and toned body without having to spend excessive amounts of time at the gym. The EMS device achieves stronger and more intense muscle contractions than a voluntary exertion can achieve alone. Depending on intensity and individual goals, you can build muscles and achieve better definition while also making them stronger and more responsive. Scientific studies have shown a clear increase in muscle strength with body fat and girth being reduced, especially in stubborn areas like the stomach.

Reduce Body Fat:

The all-round training device controls body styling to perfection. In the first phase of the training you will lose centimetres, in the second phase fat deposits are attacked and by week 12 you will lose around 10% of your body fat and an average reduction of 6-7cm in the waist. You will also burn more calories in everyday life because of the increased muscle activity, which means that the energy consumption increases. Thus, the training success is amplified and in addition girth and weight are reduced. By building fat-free muscle mass and promoting metabolic activity, the EMS body work out makes weight loss and fat removal a lasting possibility.

Reduce Cellulite:

Anti-cellulite treatment needs activity and activation, instead of only treating the surface, an EMS body work out provides a deeper solution. The electrical impulses activate the musculature and connective tissue in its entirety, stimulating circulation and the removal of superfluous fat cells. Heat development and the muscle pumping effect during training and application with the EMS work out provide better circulation through all connective tissue, the appearance of the skin is improved and metabolic products are removed easier. A perfect form of training that leaves cellulite no chance of surviving, with problem zones disappearing once and for all!
